126.43 LMT of wheat procured; 98.21% lifted · Rs. 18840 crore released to the farmers · PUNGRAIN leads with a purchase of 29.14 LMT Chandigarh May 18: Out of the total of 126.47 LMT of wheat arrivals in the mandis across the State, up to May 17 government agencies have procured 125.88 LMT of wheat and the private traders have procured 55279 MT, informed an official spokesman of the government of Punjab. More than 122.93 LMT of the wheat procured by government agencies has been lifted from the mandis recording 98.21 percent lifting in the ongoing procurement process. Besides, Rs. 18,840 crore has been released as a payment to the farmers through commission agents of the State. Amongst the State Procuring Agencies (SPAs), PUNGRAIN is leading with a total purchase of 29.14 LMT wheat, followed by MARKFED with 27.60 LMT, PUNSUP 24.27 LMT, PSWC 17.09 LMT and Punjab Agro 12.59 LMT. Similarly, the FCI has purchased 15.16 LMT of the wheat sold in the mandis of the State. No. PR/2018/386

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directive, Home Secretary NS Kalsi has issued a directive to all the top civil and police officials in the state to crack down on illegal travel agents through a series of measures to ensure strict compliance with the laws and legislations governing the licensing and operations of travel agents. The measures include include regular updation and public display of the list all licensed/registered travel agents, as well as their regular physical verification, at least once a year. As part of its drive against such unscrupulous agents, the government has come out with a set of new guidelines and instructions to ensure strict compliance with the various laws and legislations governing the registration and functioning of travel agents in Punjab, which has witnessed several instances of innocent citizens being defrauded by illegal agents. The Advisory on Effective Implementation of Law & Rules for Regulation of Travel Agents in Punjab expresses the state government’s deep concern about the unscrupulous persons/travel agents carrying out illegal activities by giving false promises to the citizens, especially the youth, for getting them settled abroad by charging huge amounts. VIGILANCE ARRESTS LINEMAN, MIDDLEMAN FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS. 30,000 (SDO, JE ALSO BOOKED IN GRAFT CASE) Chandigarh, May 17: State Vigilance Bureau arrested PSPCL Lineman and a private person for accepting bribe. Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said Lineman Rakesh Kumar posted at PSPCL Sub Division Patran, Patiala and a private person Deepak Goyal, a shopkeeper at Patran, were arrested on the complaint of Amandeep Singh of Village Ghaga in Patiala district. The complaint has approached the VB and alleged that the above said lineman and a private person working as his middleman, were demanding Rs. 30,000 to install commercial power connection at his floor mill. It may be mentioned here that the accused lineman and the middleman had already fixed a deal with SDO Davinder Kumar and JE Karamjeet Singh of PSPCL Sub Division Patran for sharing the bribe amount in this case. After verifying his information, Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused middleman was arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs.30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB has also arrested accused lineman and booked SDO and JE in this case. He informed that a case under section 7, 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B IPC has been registered against all the above said accused at VB police station Patiala and further investigations were under progress.

The cities will be awarded at the National Level. It is worth mentioning that the Government of India has announced the results of Swachhata Survekshan-2018 conducted by Ministry of Health and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Last year, Swachhata Sarvekshan 2017 was conducted in 434 cities with population one lakh or above across India. The performance of 16 participatory cities across Punjab was not very encouraging results in the 2017 survey. The best performing Mohali city in the Punjab was ranked overall 121 in SS 2017 and performance of some other cities was at the rock bottom. The Swachhata Sarvekshan 2018 has included three main parameters Service Level Progress, Direct Observation and Citizen Feedback with total marking of 4000. This year total of 4203 cities was assessed throughout India.
